Octopus Rig – Ribbons

This project was created as part of a rigging workshop. I wanted to move away from standard biped characters and challenge myself with a non-biped rig: a stylized, cartoonish octopus. My goal was to make it expressive, fun to animate, and technically solid, while experimenting with methods I had never used before.

The tentacles were rigged using ribbons, which gave me great control over curvature and flexibility. I created expressive blend shapes for the face, allowing for a range of emotions, and added sliders to make animation more intuitive. I also experimented

I reused this character in a game we made for the Ubisoft Game Lab Competition, which our team won. The octopus appears in a cage as a background prop. With a simpler rig for unity.
